First Grade Field Trip to the Grand Island Fish Hatchery

On Tuesday, February 21st the First Grade class visited the Ed Weed Fish Culture Station in Grand Isle. This trip to the hatchery enhanced the children's in-class learning of fish. While there, students saw the amazing growth of a fish, from newly hatched fry through adult as they took a guided tour of the facility. As a special treat, the class fed the adult Rainbow Trout, which gave the children the opportunity to see these beautiful fish up close as they were swimming quickly to the surface of the water to eat. In addition, the class also learned about special tools used by the biologists at the hatchery, such as waterproof paper. It was a fun trip that concluded with lunch overlooking the picturesque hatchery pond.
